The Minister of National Security, Patricia Bullrich, will hold a press conference to provide details on the arrest of one of the country's five “drug lords” and the seizure of drugs.
The conference will be held this Thursday, November 13, at 12:30 in the Centinela building of the National Gendarmerie, where Bullrich will reveal how the operation that led to the capture of the leader of the transnational organization in Exaltación de la Cruz, Buenos Aires province, was carried out.
Bilbao was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday on National Route 8 by personnel from the Gendarmerie's Anti-Drug Operations Squadron, who observed the maneuvers of the driver of a Ford Ranger pickup truck. Upon noticing the presence of the checkpoint, the driver made a U-turn and attempted to flee.
After the vehicle stopped, officers were able to confirm that the person had provided false information about their identity and was, in fact, the leader of a narco-criminal organization dedicated to the “aerial bombing of cocaine in light aircraft” and linked to an operation that took place last October in Santa Fe province.
The pickup truck in which the accused was traveling was inspected, and a total of 887 packages were found, which tested positive for cocaine using a field Narcotest, weighing 956 kilograms and 986 grams.
As a result of this procedure, 21 searches were carried out in the provinces of Buenos Aires and Santa Fe, which resulted in three arrests and the seizure of weapons, ammunition, technological devices, cash, vehicles, and documentation of interest to the case.
His brother, Waldo Bilbao, was arrested in mid-September last year in an apartment located a few blocks from the National Flag Monument in Rosario. He is accused of being a member of the same drug gang.
